Pixies : Hollywood Palladium : 11/6/09

Legendary Boston-bred band Pixies capped off a three night stand at the Hollywood Palladium Friday night. It was the first stop on their "Doolittle Tour." Doolittle is the second album from the Pixies, released back in 1989.
It was my inaugural live Pixies experience. I have to admit, prior to the concert my exposure to them was somewhat limited. However, after immersing myself in the sea of die hard fans, I felt like I had been listening to them since ’89. I could tell this was something special, a white rhino in the musical animal kingdom. There was a constant buzz throughout the venue. In between each song I barely had time to absorb the epic power of what I just heard before the next one started. During those short breaks the anticipation was intense and unique. The Pixies were playing the entire Doolittle album, yet fans reacted with surprised excitement as they rolled off the first few bars of each song in order (or maybe it was just me).
The show started off with a short film, Un Chien Andalou, before the Pixies played some B-sides and rolled right into Doolittle. Two encores concluded things, with the dreamy classic "Where Is My Mind" ending the memorable evening.

  1. Good job Melanie for taking the reings from Simon! I thought the content of this episode was very interesting, however I kind of tuned out at 2:10 (i.e. I kept listening but didn’t keep watching probably due to my short attention span!) Maybe experimenting more with the stop motion animation that you used with the EdVenture Promo video you made might work here?
