The Dandy Warhols delivered their brand of indie rock from the northwest to Los Angeles Saturday night at the Wiltern Theatre. Prior to the show I had only heard a couple of their songs once or twice. The show provided a few standouts that I totally DuG, but other times it was hard to decipher differences between songs (possibly due to the my minimal exposure). However, the appearance and dynamics of this Portland, OR-based band totally lured me in. Lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor had a stage presence full of well-executed rock mannerisms, along with occasional mildly incoherent babble (which was actually pretty funny). After one song he admitted messing up the lyrics and promised to play the song “fuckin’ perfect” again later, which the Dandy’s followed through with to cap the evening.
I found it interesting that all four members of the band lined up in the front of the stage, including fro-kickin’ drummer Brent DeBoer. Bouncy Zia McCabe was fun to watch, especially when she played synth with one hand while smoking a cigarette, making it look a little too easy.
To Live and Die In LA opened up, but unfortunately I was unaware and missed them . . . schiessen!
Did you send this to the Dandies yet? They sent out a bulletin on Myspace about the show and seeing as though this is an exceptional image I’m just saying I think you need to share.
I had a great time and I’m glad you enjoyed!
You might want to double check those dates. They’re touinrg the States in November (I have a ticket for an Arizona show on the 17th), and I can’t see them flying back and forth between Europe and America all month.
